PCC statement on latest ONS data
Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick said: “I am heartened to see another decrease in crime in Dorset ensuring our county continues to be one of the safest places in the country to live and work.
“With violence against the person offences falling, along with a drop in rape offences and significant reductions in stalking and robbery, this demonstrates Dorset Police’s unwavering commitment to keeping people safe from violent and harmful crimes and I want to thank the Force for their progress in these areas.
“I am concerned about the spike in vehicle offences, as well as the rise in burglary, which I know impacts communities and spreads fear and concern. I will be raising this with the Chief Constable as it is imperative the residents of Dorset can be confident the Force are doing their utmost to protect people from these types of crimes.
“Alongside enforcement measures, I would ask everyone to play their part, make life difficult for these criminals and where possible ensure property and possessions are not an easy target for those intent on taking advantage of hard-working people. Simple measures can make a big difference in many cases.
“With extra funding being invested in enhancing visible policing and the continuation of successful hotspot patrols across the county, progress is being made, and I will be pushing the Force to ensure the public see and feel this.”
