How you can help tackle ASB in Dorset

Recently, I launched my Op Relentless Community Fund, an opportunity for local groups and organisations across Dorset to apply for funding to help combat the harmful impact of anti-social behaviour (ASB).

Launched in 2021, the fund is designed to support practical, community-led solutions which help to prevent and reduce anti-social behaviour by giving local organisations the tools and resources they need to make a lasting difference. Since its inception, more than £210,000 has been awarded across five funding rounds to 53 projects in 49 locations across Dorset. These initiatives range from community outreach programmes and mentoring schemes to sports and skills-based activities and CCTV, all focused on tackling the root causes and impact of anti-social behaviour.

I am committed to empowering communities across Dorset to deliver the solutions they know will be most effective locally, strengthening neighbourhoods and safeguarding vulnerable people. Projects funded through Operation Relentless are a vital part of this work to tackle anti-social behaviour, which is now at its lowest level in Dorset for 16 years.

For example, following the installation of funded CCTV at Top Club Littlemoor, reported ASB incidents in the area fell by 80%. Results like this demonstrate why tackling both the causes and impacts of ASB remains a key priority in my Police and Crime Plan. By working in partnership, we can better protect Dorset residents from the persistent harm ASB can cause, while continuing to improve outcomes for victims.

The Op Relentless fund supports initiatives that engage young people, divert individuals away from violence or criminality, and build resilience within local communities through practical solutions. I want to be very clear that we welcome applications from a range of organisations including:

  • Youth groups
  • Community groups
  • Charitable organisations
  • Community Interest Companies (CICs)

Previously, successful applications have included Weymouth Skatepark, which offered reduced cost sessions to 216 young people, BCHA helped five people with addiction complete a Restart programme, AFC Bournemouth delivered 230 hours of one-to-one mentoring for at risk young people and the Sailing Training Trust supported eight young people through their sailing training project. Funding has also been delivered to groups for CCTV, securing hotspot areas and funding other practical solutions. These are just a handful of the projects I have been delighted to support, and I am excited to do even more, delivering proper interventions and support to keep communities safe.

Before you apply, we would ask you to ensure your project is focused on reducing ASB and increasing public safety. The full funding guidelines are available on the website, where you’re also able to check if your organisation meets the eligibility criteria. I really believe this is a great opportunity for organisations to secure funding for initiatives that strengthen communities and create safer environments for everyone.

Through investing in people, partnerships, and communities, this fund gives local organisations the opportunity to make a real difference where it matters most – Dorset’s communities. Help be a part of the positive action being taken in our county to tackle ASB – and keep Dorset one of the safest places in the country to live, work and visit.
