Acts Fast is a local organisation which aims to relieve the distress of families, parents, carers and children who have been the victim of sexual abuse.
The organisation had identified a severe lack of support and long term counselling across the Dorset for children and young people that were victims of abuse, and applied to the PCC for funding to establish a project to not only provide counselling for young people and parents, but also to create a safe social network that would allow victims to help and support each other, while giving parents and carers the resources to support their traumatised child.
The organisation were awarded a grant of £1500 from the Safer Dorset Fund Communiy Grant, which enabled them to employ a play therapist to work with the childen and young people, delivering a total of 24 sessions during the funded period. Parents and carers gave positive feedback following the therapysessions :
“These sessions have helped my daughter express herself in a safe environment, she is always calmer after play therapy I just wished there had been more sessions available”.
“ X has definitely benefited from seeing the play therapist she is due to be re-located to another foster family in London and we are looking to continue with the play therapy – thank you”.
