AOK Drop In

AOK are a charity working in partnership with the major homeless agencies to help homeless people OFF the streets, into accommodation, and back into the community

  • Priority 1
  • priority 2
  • priority 4

They will starting a “drop in” available to clients of all the homeless agencies, with most of the clients based in the Boscombe area. They offer refreshments, tea, coffee, biscuits and home-made cakes as an inducement to get people 'through the door. '  They want these clients to make new friends and by treating them as individuals, talking with them, and just as importantly listening to them, they hope to build trust and establish what issues they have that need to be resolved.

Recent help includes getting two clients into full employment and providing basic working clothes, pointing a homeless veteran to “Homes for Heroes”, and one recently housed client who despite the receipt of our “Move In” pack wanted a rug to “make his room feel like home”.

By dealing with their issues and offering the opportunity of some of the key needs of Maslow’s hierarchy; security of resources, employment, and friendship  they believe that many of these ex homeless people will resolve their issues, build their life skills, gain independence, self-respect, confidence and a sense of achievement, and ultimately move back into society and the community and will be less likely to relapse into their old ways, and less likely to re-offend or be involved in crime and anti-social behaviour.
