Longmead Community Farm
Longmead Community Farm is being funded by the PCC to provide the initial weekend residential stay for families in crisis who are entering the family therapy programme.
- PRIORITY 1
- priority 2
The project will be working with families who may have drug and alcohol issues, be at risk of offending, or have children on the child protection register. To try and break the cycle of poor parenting, Longmead bring families onto the farm for a weekend and engage in a range of farm based activities which they can engage and interact with such as cooking, farm work, creative and recreational activities. The family dynamic is assessed and the programme is modified to suit their needs, including 1:1 sessions where appropriate.
After their stay on the farm, it is hoped the family are brought closer together and help parents to become more self-aware, allow the family to support each other and, as result, show a decrease in criminal behaviour and alcohol or drug misuse which is of benefit to not only the family, but the wider community.
