Bus Stop Club - Mental Health First Aid

The Bus Stop Club operate in the Heatherlands Area of Ferndown , and run a variety of activities in the local community

The centre found that many of the clients coming ot them for support and assistance were expereinceng poor mental health,  and sent a membe of staff on a Mental Health First Aid Training Course. This works on a similar basis to the more well-known First Aid courses helping  learners to raise their awareness of Mental Health generally, and teaches then how to assess level of risk by engaging with the distressed person and asking the right questions in a non-judgmental, supportive and compassionate manner.

Having experienced how helpful the course was, they decided to deliver the Mental Health First Aid Courses to voluntary sector staff and volunteers, and other front line staff working in Dorset, and applied for funding to pay for a member of staff to be trained in delivering the training locally.
