The Streetlight Centre

The Streetlight Centre is an indoor skate park and community café set up for the benefit of the people of Wimborne.

is The aim of the centre is to give young people, local residents and young families a place they can meet and relax, which not only gives them a comfortable place to go but also reduces low level crime and antisocial behaviour amongst young people in the process.

The Streetlight Centre applied to PCC for a grant of £1500 from the Safer Dorset Fund to allow them to purchase skateboards, scooters, bikes and safety equipment which could be loaned to young people who don’t have their own equipment. This allows  everyone in the local area to spend time in the park regardless of income, allowing them to participate in all of the activities the centre offers.

The centre also offers the opportunites for young people to partcicpate in volunteering, through the community cafe, and supporting other young people.

Andy Putt who manages the centre said “The Streetlight Project is an indoor skate park and community cafe. The Safer Dorset Fund has enabled us to purchase new equipment to replace our broken scooters etc. Business was good last winter and continued through the summer as well  ahead of our expectations. The new equipment is very well used and has enabled many children and young people to enjoy our much appreciated facilities."

The project has worked with over 10,000 people over the funded year, including four groups of disabled children.
