Barnardo's Missing Children
Dorset PCC has co –commissioned the Barnado's Missing Children Service with Bournemouth Borough Council, Dorset County Council, the Borough of Poole, and Dorset CCG to deliver services to young people at risk of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) across all three top tier authority areas.
Barnado’s staff, assisted by trained volunteers undertake ‘return home interviews’ with young people at risk when they have been found, or have returned to their main residence following a period of unexplained absence. Young people deemed ‘at risk’ are those that have those who are missing over 9 hrs, overnight or 3 times in 3 months. In addition Barnado’s workers will also undertake 1:1 work with those young people identified as being at risk of Child Sexual Exploitation.
The service provides an effective, young person-centred support, by undertaking individually tailored assessments, with the direct involvement of the child or young person, to identify and understand risks and agree actions to create a bespoke support package that will reduce their risk of going missing or from CSE.
Barnados will be working alongside partners and professionals around the child or young person to proactively raise awareness of their issues, reducing risk and preventing incidences of CSE and missing episodes.
