PCC Election - Information for Candidates

Welcome to the candidate information page for the upcoming Police and Crime Commissioner elections on May 5th. This page is maintained by the Office of the Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner.


Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) were introduced by the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011.  The first PCC election took place across England and Wales on the 15 November 2012, creating 41 PCCs.  The next PCC election is due to take place on 5 May 2016.  PCCs are elected by the public for a period of four years..

PCCs are elected to oversee how crime is tackled in a police force area ensuring the policing needs of the community are met as effectively as possible. They also hold the local police force to account for delivering the kind of policing the public want to see.
