Bournemouth Crown Court Open Day
Instead of my normal weekly newsletter, this week I would like to use this opportunity to invite you to what I think will be a fun and informative event this weekend.
Dorset Criminal Justice Board are hosting a free open day at Bournemouth Crown Court in Deansleigh Road on Saturday 1st July, 10am to 4pm. The event will be a chance for all to learn more about how the criminal justice system works.
As Police and Crime Commissioner for Dorset, I chair the Dorset Criminal Justice Board which sees organisations involved in the criminal justice system in Dorset working in partnership to deliver the best possible criminal justice service to our communities.
As Chair, I’m delighted to be supporting this event. The open day will give everyone a chance to see justice in action and engage will lots of the different agencies and services that are involved in the criminal justice system - so from chatting to a probation officer to watching a mock trial or visiting the court cells or finding out more about a career in the law – the whole day is geared up to be fun, free and informative.
There will be a number of criminal justice partners present on the day, this includes but is not limited to Dorset Police, the Crown Prosecution Service, Victims Support and Probation. There will also be presentations on several subjects such as ‘Becoming a Criminal Lawyer’, ‘The Sentencing Process’ and ‘A Day in the Life of a Crown Court Advocate’. The day will also involve activities suitable for all ages, such as finger printing, the chance to try on a magistrate’s robes and wig and mock trials.
Days like this help to bridge the gap between the organisations that work within the criminal justice system and the community they serve – so please come along and find out more about your local justice system.
