Release: Fix the Future Community Fund re-opens for bids

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has launched the second round of his Fix the Future Community Fund. The fund aims to help support projects and initiatives which will benefit young people and their local community.

Applications are now, once again, open for community groups and organisations to bid for funding for projects and initiatives that reflect the needs of younger people, give them development opportunities, add value to the community and ultimately, make Dorset a safer place to live.

PCC David Sidwick said: “I am delighted to launch this second round of my Fix the Future Community Fund. Enforcement alone cannot combat all crime, to truly tackle the root cause, we must also have clear prevention and education pathways.

This includes ensuring Dorset’s younger residents have opportunities to use their spare time constructively and activities available which help them develop and become resilient adults. It also helps the cohesion and strength of our communities. This is exactly what the Fix the Future Community Fund aims to do.

So, if you are a charity or local project and you fit the criteria – I would encourage you to bid for funding. Together, we can Fix the Future and make our county safer for everyone.”

The fund was launch by the PCC in October 2022 and has already seen over £40,000 given to nine community projects across Dorset. Previously funded projects include; a maritime education project that taught young people skills needed to gain employment in the maritime industry, a dance project for young people not engaging with school and community outreach work creating a safe space for youngsters in the evenings.

Applications from £100 up to £5,000 are welcomed, the projects must meet the funding criteria and have a local focus. The fund is particularly aimed at helping those from deprived or isolated areas.
