PCC calls for urgent action on ketamine
Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner, David Sidwick said: “I remain deeply concerned about the growing harm being caused by ketamine, particularly among young people. We are seeing increasing evidence of the devastating impact this drug can have, including severe and sometimes irreversible damage to the bladder and kidneys, as well as wider consequences for individuals, families and communities.
“However, what is particularly frustrating is the lack of urgency from government. Following the review into nitrous oxide in 2023, legislation was changed within just 21 days. It has now been 146 (23/6) days since the Government commissioned review of ketamine was delivered, yet no action has been taken.
“Given the increasing prevalence of ketamine use and the serious harm it causes, I urge the Government to provide clarity and act without further delay. Our communities deserve a response that reflects the scale of this growing threat, not dither and delay.”
