Bournemouth Crown Court Open Day

Join us at the Bournemouth Crown Court Open Day - witness a mock trial, have your finger prints taken or see inside the court cells.

The event will provide a valuable opportunity for members of the public to gain a greater understanding of our criminal justice system and to see first-hand the important work carried out every day by those who serve within it.

Throughout the day, visitors will be able to experience a range of engaging and informative activities, including mock trials and sentencing hearings, guided tours of the court cells, and presentations and question-and-answer sessions with Barristers, Magistrates, and the Chief Constable of Dorset Police amongst others.

Sessions include:

  • 10:15 Chief Constable of Dorset Police: Sharing a career in Dorset police
  • 11:00 Escapeline - Raising awareness of child exploitation
  • 12:00 A Day in the Life of a Crown Advocate: A crown advocate will describe their role as a CPS Prosecutor.
  • 13:00 - The role of a Court Mental Health Practitioner: A presentation on the role of a Court Mental Health Practitioner
  • 13:45 - Becoming a Criminal Lawyer: A Q&A with a Barrister to explain career paths and opportunities.
  • 14:30 - The Justices: A conversation between magistrates about the opportunities to
  • take up the role.
  • 15:30 - The life of a Crown Court Judge: A Crown Court Judge will share their experiences in the role.

Attendees will have the opportunity to speak directly with professionals from across the justice system, ask questions, and learn more about the responsibilities and challenges faced by those working to keep Dorset safe.
